ABOUT

1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle

Our test mule:  Shantung Yellow 1971 Super Beetle sedan wearing most of its original paint that has been driven over 366k miles.

Our Mission Statement:  To provide innovative products to improve the reliability of 1946-1979 air-cooled Volkswagen vehicles.

I have been driving, repairing and modifying air-cooled Volkswagens since 1993.  It all started in 1993 when a good friend bought a “barn-find” 1967 Volkswagen Type III fastback, which had been parked for 10+ years.  He needed help getting it roadworthy, so our group of friends pitched in to help.  After that car was reliably on the road, each of us who helped bought our own air-cooled Volkswagen.  We worked together to repair & keep them on the road as summer-time daily-driver vehicles.

After completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, I started to improve the performance of my 1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle.  First the car received 4-wheel disc brakes, then the front was lowered using Topline struts and front stabilizer bar.  A 1776cc engine with heavily modified heads, dual 40DCN Weber carburetors, Crower dual-pattern camshaft and Kymco exhaust was assembled along with a close-ratio 4-speed transaxle.  Once installed, this little Super Beetle now lived up to its “Super” name!

As time has moved on, I have continued to refine the vehicle to make it a usable, reliable classic.  I’ve developed some innovative solutions to correct some inherent air-cooled Volkswagen issues and improve the reliability of these vehicles.  I created this website to share them with you.
